On Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks killed nearly 3,000 people at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania. On the 10-year anniversary of 9/11, America continues to fight a war on terror that has claimed the lives of more than 100 Oklahomans. In the next month, the Tulsa World will tell the stories of those who have given their lives, victims of 9/11 and how the attacks affected us all.

After receiving hundreds of millions of dollars in homeland security funds since Sept. 11, 2001, Oklahoma has experienced a steep drop in homeland security funding in the past two years, records show.

During the 10-year period since the 9/11 attacks, Oklahoma has received about $206 million in federal funding for terrorism prevention and emergency response programs, according to data from Oklahoma’s Office of Homeland Security.
