Monument supported by most Oklahomans

Oklahomans overwhelmingly support erecting a Ten Commandments monument on the state Capitol grounds, but most don't expect it to have much of an impact on state government or on the behavior of Oklahomans as a whole, a recent Oklahoma Poll found.

Almost 80 percent of the 621 likely Oklahoma voters surveyed Jan. 2-5 said they strongly or somewhat approve of the monument, which is scheduled to be installed later this year.

"Think we've taken out all the reminders (of religion)," said poll respondent Christine Peterson, who was among the 67 percent who strongly approve of the monument. "Once you remove all of that, you reap what you sow."
