Oklahomans like what is being served but may not be ready to sit at the same table, a poll finds.

Oklahomans are sympathetic to the tea party movement but not necessarily eager to become involved with it, a recent Oklahoma Poll shows.

Fifty-six percent of the 755 likely voters surveyed July 16-21 said they viewed the tea party movement strongly or somewhat favorably, outnumbering those with an unfavorable opinion by about 2-to-1.

Fewer than 7 percent, though, had ever attended a tea party rally or donated to a tea party organization.

“I don’t know a whole lot about it,” said poll participant Douglas Bergman of Vinita, “but I see it as trying to make people wake up instead of hiding their heads in the sand. They want people to be responsible for what they’re doing.”

“It’s just citizens who are concerned about different things and wanting to get things done,” said Etta Martin of Glenpool.
