Poll: Confidence in Oklahoma economy up

Oklahomans' confidence in the state's economy has grown in the past six months even as their outlook on their own finances and the nation's remained tepid, the latest Oklahoma Poll shows.

"Jobs are hard to find here, but I think our economy is better than the national economy," said Sandra Blackwell, a disabled retiree from Claremore.

Thirty-seven percent of the 755 Oklahomans surveyed July 16-21 said the state's economy is getting better. In January, just 25 percent thought so.

"Six months ago, nobody spoke to anybody," said Blackwell. "Now it seems like the attitude of the whole town is pleasant."

Perceptions of the economy, especially at the national level, depended to a large degree on political philosophy, location, household income and marital status.
